This is a replica of the experimental jungle wool shirt that first appeared in 1960, with actual distribution being extremely rare. Made from 34N/2 wool, it is soft enough to be worn directly against the skin.

The sweater, which resembles a World War II-era jungle sweater but weighs significantly less, was actually part of an early Vietnam-era “experimental” jungle/tropical uniform and equipment developed by the U.S. Army Special Forces and the Natick Laboratory (a research and engineering division of the Army Materiel Command). These were known as “jungle sweaters.”

Due to the large temperature fluctuations between day and night in Southeast Asia, the sweater was primarily used for sleeping at night or during the colder winter months. In reality, only a limited number were issued before it was replaced by the more affordable acrylic sweater.
