On March 27, 1858, France passed the Breton Stripe Shirt Act, which made blue and white striped knitted shirts part of the French sailor's uniform.
It is believed that striped t-shirts help to find sailors who fall off the boat. Later, the striped t-shirt became the standard not only for the French Navy and fishing fleet but also for other navies around the world.
It became fashionable a century later. The classic Bretton blue and white stripes are the symbols of the sailor, and the collar is also a prominent symbol of the French sailor's shirt. This shirt has become one of my absolute favorites and has survived several washes without any damage or loss of shape. I love the sturdy fabric, the cut, and the feel of it. It's so easy to style and pairs well with many other pieces.
I'm 1.80 meters tall and weigh 85 kg, and I wear a size 42. The shirt has a relaxed fit without being too baggy. I wouldn't recommend a smaller size for my build.

Beautiful t-shirt made of nice material. Soft, comfortable. 175 cm, 75 kg, chest 102 cm, size 42 is OK.
BTW, French Navy-Wear Act was 1858, not 1958 as it is written in the description.
Great cut and quality for a decent price. The cotton is thick and looks nice and fresh after one or two days of use. If Bronson did them in white or ivory I would buy them.
I purchased the Breton Stripe T-Shirt in size 42, I am 5 ft 10 and 12 1/2 stone and it fits perfectly! Great for layering or wearing solo on hotter days. Highly recommended!
I really love the quality of this item! It’s classic and robust. I was surprised to see that the cream colored stripes were as rich as they were in person, darker than I expected. It’s also more snug than I expected, so I would recommend overshooting by a size.
I bough a size 44 since I wanted it to fit oversized, the quality is amazing! So soft and comfortable. I’m 5’6 for reference. I will shop here again most likely.
Fits well. Fabric is colored well. I am 5’ 11 and almost 200 lbs - average build. Shirt did not focus on any area. Just flowed properly against my form.
