The Gurkha trouser takes its name from Nepal’s elite soldiers of the same name, and the Gurkhas themselves derive their name from the Nepalese Kingdom of Gorkha. At the Gorkha military fort of Nalapani, the British military, in the form of the East India Company, came into conflict with the Gurkhas in around 1814, and their bravery and ferocity came as something of a shock. Armed with intricate knowledge of the terrain, superior stamina borne out of living most of their lives at high altitude, and complete fearlessness, the Gurkhas held out at Nalapani against a British force around six times their size until they had exhausted all food, water, and ammunition. Even then, they chose not to surrender, instead of fighting their way out of the surrounded fort and escaping into the hills.
The British eventually overwhelmed the Gurkhas through sheer numbers, and the Nepalese were forced to settle for peace with them at the end of the Anglo-Nepalese war. However, the British were so awed by the combat prowess of the Gurkhas that they created the highly unusual Treaty of Sugauli, which allows the British Army to recruit Gurkhas into their military to this day. The modern Gurkha recruitment program is known for being one of the world’s most brutal, famously including a 5km uphill run, which has to be completed with 25kg of sandbags strapped to the recruit’s head.
The Gurkha trouser was borne out of this alliance as well - rooted in British military tradition but explicitly modified for use by the Nepalese. The pant is defined by its double-pleated front and high, cummerbund-style waistband with buckle fastenings.

Great shorts little long for me (5'8"). Took washes to soften up and custom fit.
These are excellent. Authentic and very well made
very good quality and great fit….
Truly well made. Great materials and workmanship, definitely will shop again.
Thank you very much for answering all me questions!
Exactly as advertised.
A great look and very unusual.
Biautifull and élégant short .
My second pair loving it. The cotton is much better and softer than my first pair. It would be great if slightly thicker As other colour options. Please make them in khaki green, navy or black!
Excellent quality. Very pleased with the substantial material which should last a long time. And if your shorts are to warm on the hottest days, you can roll them up like the Brits did.
So pleased to finally have a pair of Gurkha-esque shorts. Very well made, excellent fabric. Well done!
Very impressed by the quality of the material and workmanship.
Very comfortable. I find they fit best with the belts fastened above the hip, typical for clothing of that era.
Spacious pockets. The buttoned flaps on the back pockets are nice if you tend to worry about losing your wallet or phone.
I almost never wear shorts, but I think they look pretty good on me.
For reference, I am 5’10”, weigh 160 lbs. and ordered the size 4.

Would have chosen the ported model after thinking about it. I am getting used to fastening the waist straps having to enlarge the buckle holes to permit the fastening .
Have washed the shorts the first time and will see how they come out.
These shorts are really nice, well made, with fine details. They harken back to the famous Gurkhas (I think). I had a pair of similar shorts 25+ years ago, so its fun to have a similar retro pair so many years later.
They are exactly what I was expecting. Thank you.
Do you have the same item in a larger size as 14 ,
Love the fabric, fit and style!
I’ve been looking for a Ghurka shorts for 20 years now, and these are perfect! The fit is great, the quality should last another 20 years, even the color is just right.
Got really into Gurkha trousers and came across Non Stock/Bronson. To be honest wasn't sure what their products would be like in real life, and man do they deliver! Got the shorts in the mail yesterday and they're awesome, really good quality in material, design and construction, and great attention to detail. Super happy, just ordered a pair of the long pants. This company is sick.
Very well made and the built-in belt is practical and stylish. I'll be getting another pair.
