The aircraft carrier deck crew wore N-1 deck jackets during World War II and the Korean War. The thick cotton shell and alpaca or wool lining gave the deck crew the needed warmth and protection from the elements during extreme cold weather conditions. U.S. Navy produced the initial series in Navy blue to symbolize the Navy before changing to Khaki.
The U.S. Navy developed three “N” systems. In addition to the cold climate N-1, the N-2 system for rainy and the N-3 system for tropical conditions. Despite these climate divisions, old photographs indicate sailors rarely used these systems according to regulations, opting instead to mix and match to suit their layering needs and preferences.
Our reproduction is the 1940s U.S. Navy 3rd Type N-1 Deck Jacket. This version has no wool on the cuffs, no gun belt under the arm, and contract number NXsx 70201.
In the latest version for 2022, we've made several upgrades. The shell is made of 14 oz. jungle cross fabric and is waterproof. The inner is made of 30 oz. wool blended, which is very cold resistant.

I’m 6’1 196 lbs, I got the 44 largest they had and it fits snug. I kinda wish they offered a 46 to see what one size up would feel like on me. Jackets is quality though! Made very well, shipping was fast. Best bang for your buck for sure.
Great quality jacket! Very well done
Fully recommend going a size up from what you are.
Nice jacket and good quality! I'm 171 cm tall, 74 kg and went for a size L.
Love the coat, definitely my go to jacket.
Wear a 44 inch suit coat; ordered a size 42 based on the sizing guides. I should have ordered a 44; 42 is too tight across the back and in the arms. Quality is very nice for the price. I may order a 44 and send the 42 on to my son.
Great overall jacket. Well made, with great attention to details. It is warm and comfortable. It should be noted (not a complaint) that the jacket is so well made of traditional jacket materials it is a bit heavy, and also is much warmer than I expected. Again, I love this jacket and am very happy wearing it!
Only had size 44 when I ordered. Took a chance. Usually wear a large which would be a size 42. However, sometimes I have trouble with the shoulders and chest being tight. Size 44 is just a little roomy but that’s ok. I don’t like a tight fit. I’m 6 ‘and weigh 185 and have a 44 inch chest. Hope this review helps. Received within 2 and 1/2 weeks of placing the order. This is a very well made replica. I had a large in an Orvis version and it was roomy. It also had the Alpaca wool which was itchy and there was no cinch to take in , this created a draft. The price was double.
Didn't expect the jacket was made so well and really thick material. Love it! I did get a size 44 so i can went a hoodie inside for the winter. Usually wear M/L size Jacket.
Another great garment from Bronson - true to size and very authentic. This jacket looks great and is really warm.
Bang for buck can’t be beaten with this one! Thanks, Bronson.
I love this jacket. The fabric used is solid, the quality is amazing and very warm, in addition to that I wear a jacket that is not very common in my country. I can almost say that I am the only one who wears it, and this is something special. I am 174 and weigh 72 kg. Size 38 is very suitable, neither tight nor loose
It took a month to get here, which wasn't the happiest time, but when it arrived all was forgiven. That's guys for the renewing of the Navy N1 Deck Jacket, just like 1970 all more again.
Searched 4 long time
search Ova!!! dis da one, bigger guy fits puuuurfect⚡️
pefect fit, nice matrial, top costumer service
This is awesome. I can't imagine how much nicer the more expensive ones are, but at this price point, it's really an amazing bang for the buck. At 6'0 and 185lbs I went with size 44 because I knew I was going to wash it. On the first wash and dryer it shrunk a little and then I washed again to get more worn in look, and it shrunk a little more. Now it fits perfect and probably close to how a 42 would fit if you never washed. It is more snug, but enough room in body. The arm holes are very high and a little tight and I wish the sleeves were like .5-1 inch more and I would be totally happy, but this is being super nit picky. Basically, if you think you will wash at some point, I would size up one size. If you don't plan to wear a lot or will wash in cold and air dry, you can probably order you're usual size and be ok if you want a snug fit.
I bought it as a gift. he is 1,80 m tall and weighs 78kg, size 40 fits comfortably.
Good value for Money
Vraiment tres bonne qualitée . Finition de grande qualitée . Expedition rapide . Transaction Paarfaite
Perfect fit for this style very sturdy material and warm inside, just like the ones I saw in the movie “their finest hours “ already ordered a couple of other styles.
Great work Bronson
Olive Kaki 38
Jacket fits perfect used your guide and sized up to recommend size. Great quality, shipping wait was not that long and was worth the wait. Thank you and be blessed in Jesus name.
Bellissima giacca, molto pesante e realizzazione top!
Great jacket well worth the money
Encore une très belle veste. Elle est juste superbe et surtout très chaude. Elle est très bien coupé. Je l'adore .
Merci a Broson pour nous fabriquer de si belles choses.
Very nice, just missing inner pockets…
I had bought the less expensive version of this deck jacket, and it is a good version. This version of the N1 deck jacket is next level. Reminds me of the one I had in high school many moons ago. Warm on a chilly morning and the jungle cloth is bomb proof. I've seen examples of much more expensive brands and I would have to say that this is their equal. As far as size goes, be sure to do your measurements. These are more of a tailored garment so the arm holes are smaller so the jacket moves with you, instead of pulling away from your body. Very well put together, and I expect to get many years of use from this garment.
Great jacket. I chose a 38 based on the measurements of an 1968 A2 deck jacket(sized as a medium 38-40). Very impressed with quality and fit.
First rate replica of this iconic jacket. Shell is the correct weight and completely spot-on accurate. Liner is likewise period correct, heavy duty and warm! This is more of a winter jacket due to the weight and warmth. Size is about right. The size 42 fits just about perfectly but a 44 may have been too big. I’m more than satisfied with this jacket and it will probably only improve with age.
Totally worth the wait for international shipping. You could tell how high quality this jacket was within moments of unboxing it. LOVE IT!
Took awhile to get, but was well worth the wait. I'm 6ft tall, 200 lbs. Size 44 fits perfect. A beautiful high-quality jacket I can't wait to wear. The only thing I would add is an inside pocket. Thanks Bronson - you hit this one outta the park!
Well it took just over a month to arrive & the tracking app was a bit vague so I was starting to wonder if it was ever going to arrive....but it did and I'm very pleased with it. Really warm, fit is exactly how I wanted it (usually a 38 suit jacket so went for a large) and well made & all for a reasonable price so thanks Bronson, it's a big thumbs up from me
Excellent workmanship and accurate representation in photos vs. the real thing. 44 size was largest available when I purchased recently and it's too small, unfortunately. Some of the other 44 size shirts and t-shirts fit fine for me which is why I got the Jacket. There is inconsistency of sizing which is sometimes listed by numbers and other times by the classic: S,M,L,XL, XXL. Cannot correlate accurately between the 2 different measurement systems and end up getting the wrong fit.
fits just enough room for a sweater or hoodie not too lose and not too snug, great workmanship identical to originals in 40s and 50s navy pictures and ones seen on movie The Finest Hours and Greyhound, heavy rugged construction warm feel inside wool lining, took about 20 days from shipping date but worth the wait, will order more styles.
PS tracking app not very accurate, showed a second rout delivery drop across the US in the east coast when mine had already landed in the west coast where I'm located, a bit confusing, might want to correct that app issue with Shop APP
Great again! I brilliant jacket.
Bronson do it again. Just superb. The fit is perfect in the chest but a little long in arms and perhaps a tad long but not by much. But that's me!
Only issue I had was the main buttons had be re stitched but I'm not bad with a needle and thread so no worries. All in all a great jacket.
Especially compared to the very expensive makes!
Probably one of the most accurate recreations of the iconic N1 jacket on the market today. The heavyweight corded material used in the shell is identical to the original fabric that was used in my original. I ordered the XL (size 42) and it fits me perfectly at 5' 7" 185 lbs. These do run a tad small, so just be mindful of that. Jacket is a bit weighty thanks to the 80% wool lining but it's warm as toast. I've owned several N1 jackets and this one by Bronson is by far the best. It's like getting a brand new original N1 right from the Navy storeroom. It was worth the two month wait.
Quality craftsmanship great reproduction.
Excellent quality, I would purchase more from the Bronson team in a heartbeat.
In terms of sizing, just get a tape measure. The size charts they've provided on the website are accurate to true measurements. Bronson does not vanity size their items, so just keep that in mind.
Very good transaction and good communication. Very happy with my Bronson N1 Deck Jacket.
This was the quality big jacket I wanted. In the past I have been stung with other brands but this Bronson N1 is the jacket I have been looking for for years.
Superbe veste ! Belle repro ! Matière robuste et semble chaude. J’en suis content et fier.
Je fais 1m77 et pèse aux alentours de 85 kg, la taille 40 est parfaite pour une coupe un peu ajustée. Merci Bronson MFG pour ce que vous faites ! (Thanks Bronson MFG for your work!)
Great jacket. Fits perfect. Can’t wait for the colder Melbourne weather to wear. It.
Exactly as described! Jacket was warm and made exceptionally well. Would order again.
My favorite jacket, perfect repro exceptional finishes
It was hard to find the right fit. 38 was too small, 42 is a touch too big. 40 would have probably been perfect.
I am however very happy with the quality. It is very warm, and this size allows me to wear additional layers to tackle colder weather in Spring and fall and even some winter temperatures.
Bronson's customer service was stellar. They were quick to respond, follow up with me and made sure my exchange happened flawlessly. For those of you in North America. Keep in mind that they have a return warehouse in the USA. Which makes it easier on your wallet for return fees.
I would and most likely will order from them again.
Thanks Bronson Team!
very nice quality jacket
Bought the faux fur N-1 in size 44. Liked it so much I ordered the wool version but in 42, as the 44 was a little too loose. The 42 fits just right (I’m 5’8” 185 lbs). Nice and snug over a long sleeved shirt, but not really enough room for a thick sweater underneath. It’s much warmer than the faux version though, so no worries.
Great jacket, very warm, well made. Think I could have gone for 40L.
I am medium UK. 5,9 and Weigh 71kg
Love the jacket.
Loving my N-1, Great quality and fit.
Nice alternative than finding a vintage one your size. For the price it is constructed really solid and accurate to the original. I found size 36 pretty good for to layer with a sweater or shirt/vest. As a women, a 34 may have been a lot better. But I can definitely later with this.
Shipping took about almost a month to get here. With COVID and delays, it took awhile to get to the US. But well worth it. Can’t wait to wear it until it’s beaten up.
Very accurate repo of original jacket . Very warm and very well made. It's a cool looking piece no doubt. Highly recommend
It’s very nice,good quality jacket
Great coat well built a and super warm
This jacket does not disappoint. Warmth, weight, and construction are all on point. Processing was great as well.
Now let's talk sizing - I'm 5'10"/160lbs and wear a size 38 suit jacket and I went for a size 40. I'm admittedly a big fan of the 'modern slim fit' and this size is perfect in my opinion - I've worn my denim jacket underneath and it was snug but manageable - though I could totally see sizing up to a 42 if that isn't your style.
All in all this jacket just looks and feels great. Do yourself a favor and get one.
Wasn't sure what to expect from a $175 coat but the quality has exceeded my expectations. Not big on buying stuff made in China but again I have to say it is a great coat for the price. I wore it today in 15 degree fahrenheit weather and it kept me toasty warm.
Love this jacket! Construction is of the highest quality and the fit is perfect. I am 120cm around the chest and the 44 fits nicely with a denim shirt underneath. Highly recommend!
Very nice jacket. If you like it a bit roomier, choose one size more than normal, runs small.
Material is very true to the original, processing is great as usual.
Hi! I really love this jacket. The only thing I didn't like is that both pocket materials broke. This was after wearing it a few weeks. I almost didn't want to believe they broke. Upon inspection the corduroy material is pretty thin. The original pocket material in original Navy jackets were thicker and more durable. I ended up finding similar thicker material and sewing new pockets in myself. The jacket fit pretty good and kept me pretty warm and toasty. I had thought there was an inner pocket to this jacket from looking at photos when I was deciding to purchase it. There weren't any, so I made inner pockets out of broken khaki colored pants. Despite the pocket material breaking, for the money to get a pretty good period correct looking Navy N-1 jacket I thought was. pretty good deal. I just wish the pocket material was made with heavy/thicker material that would last. Also some loose threads were showing up around the button holes and other. I know this isn't exactly made to military spec but when I see loose threads I kind of expect something to give/break. I do recommend this jacket to anyone wanting a descent repro of the Nave Deck N-1 jacket.
I probably would fit a Large better but my Medium is snug and warm and fits like a glove. I’m 5’11” 195 lbs and the length is great. I guess if you were 140 it’d fit like the model but I’m more than happy with it for winter wear.
Great Jacket very warm well worth the money
Great replica of the Deck Jacket N-1, fantastic material and really warm for cold weather.
I've bought the gift card at 150$ for a value of 180$ so i spared 30 bucks :)
I reccomended it for sure !!!!!
Tighter than expected. Still a good fit.
Well made and looks very cool. Fabric is stiff, but I expect it will loosen up with wear. Size up - I usually wear a 40, but it was too tight across the chest, so I returned it for a 42, which is just right.
Got this jacket a couple of months ago and it’s been *ideal* for the colder part of the winter - the lining is 80% wool and definitely keeps you warm. Build quality and materials are great too.
As for sizing these do seem to come up quite small; I’m usually somewhere between a Small and Medium and the 38 is perfect. I can’t fit a thick jumper under it (which is fine - there’s no need with the lining) but a sweatshirt or thick flannel shirt is fine.
Long story short: I’m really happy to recommend the N1, I can see it lasting a good few years and I’m not going to want to put it away come springtime!
I had the original version when I was
in the USCG back in the day
Love my N1. Great construction and materials. A very high quality product. Don't miss out. I'm 6' and weigh 185 lbs and I'm wearing a 42. It leaves a nice bit of space for my denim or a vest underneath.
Really nice Jacket. I recommend it for everyone!
Brought this for my son for Christmas. Really good quality, he absolutely loves it.
I have had my jacket now a few weeks and I love it. Very warm, comfortable and easy to wear. Well made, and fits your normal size when ordering. Good tracking service. No complaints at all. Would use this company again.
A very fine jacket at a reasonable price
It’s fantastic and I guess you‘ll also recognize the shirt :-)
Good Quality Jacket
Great jacket! Top quality for the right price. Highly recommended, but do size up.
Quality is very good, but it was just too tight across the chest. I am 5' 9" and 155 pounds, and I wear a 40 suit jacket and usually buy sweaters and casual jackets in Medium, so I ordered N-1 in a 40, but had to send it back. I may reorder a 42, but fear that the sleeves will be too long, as the 40 sleeves were just right.
Super smooth transaction, the quality of the coat is superb!
Very well made, everything about it is tough as nails!
Will definitely be a return customer!
First off, you really cannot beat this jacket for the price. Honestly. It is heavyweight for a repro - thick cotton outer and very warm 80% wool inner lining that goes all the way down the sleeves! Zip is good enough - brass.
If you want a 'modern slim' fit size up once.
If you want a more original 'Army workwear' 1940s fit size up twice.
I am a 36" chest at 5'9" slim build and went for a 40. Fit is great. Roomy enough to move in the shoulders with space for a jumper underneath. If I had gone for the 38 it would have been too slim to work in or for another layer. Plus the old school body fit matches my wider 40s cut denim.
Do check the measurements on a similar jacket you own before purchasing.
Note: The jacket is quite close around the pits with long sleeves. Sleeves are easily altered as the wool lining doesn't go past the storm cuffs.
Overall good job Bronson. You won't be disappointed by this good quality, heavyweight, warm jacket for such a good price. Keep up the good work!
Great build quality perfect
Very pleased with the Quality and fit. Arrived on time good value for the money.
Excellent product, identical to the original models that I have had, warm and resistant, serious company.
Item was exactly as advertised. It is just like the original which I owned for many years since WW2.
very easy pleasant experience ordering. Came quickly and the Jacket is as expected. It is a very good replica and to my eye perfect. I have a size 44 and it is a perfect fit snug and warm. I am 6' 1" and 170 lbs so it won't fill larger people. This is my third replica Navy Deck Jacket and by far the best.
Love the jacket but it does not fit. How do I get a larger size?
Should have ordered a larger size which wasn’t available anyway (48). It’ll make a cool present for someone else
This coat is ridiculously warm, but true to size. I had to get a size bigger. All lined in wool with accurate tags.
I’m really impressed how well this jacket is made. Super warm. Wish I had gone a size higher. Will buy from Bronson again.
Love the jacket. Just as I expected.
Size up! I'm usually a medium in other brands like J Crew and Banana Republic and a 42 (Large) fit me
big enough so that I can at least wear a shirt or sweater underneath comfortably. 40 was too small and I could barely fit it with a T Shirt so I sold it to someone else.
Other than that, great jacket. I like that the color of the wool is not too dark or light, just right in my opinion. Quality is good for everything at this point as well. For ~180 it's a good jacket.
Amazing jacket. Exactly as described on the website. Definitely worth sizing up. Seems to be very well made.
I love this jacket, exceptional quality, great fit and fantastic service from the Bronson team.
Would recommend sizing up, I’m 6ft , 180lbs uk medium, I ordered the 42 on Bronson’s recommendation...fits like a glove with enough room for another layer.
Shipping was fast ( 2 weeks delivery from time of order) and accurate. The jacket was accurately described online and identical to the photographs. It appears to be made of high grade materials and well fabricated. The outer material is a bit stiff but hopefully with use it will soften. Jacket is very warm at 20F. I am 6ft tall and 175lbs and the 42 fits perfectly. The wool lining is quite thick and extends through the sleeves leaving little room for an additional sweater if desired but as I said, the jacket is very warm by itself. Overall I am pleased with the purchase and can recommend this jacket.
- I’m 5,7. 150LBS. 38 chest.
- I wear a small Levi Trucker.
Was told to size up.
Ordered a 40.
The jacket out of the package fit well pit to pit. But overall the jacket was bulky. Big arms, long sleeves. Long shoulder seams. Ect.
I had put it through a machine wash cycle and dry. It fits perfect now. Would suggest doing so.
There is a big hole in the right pocket. QC could get better.
The jacket looks very good, I didn't test it outside because it's still summer but I'm looking forward to use it in the winter because it seems warm and comfortable. I bought a 36, with a t-shirt is perfect but with a sweater feels a little tight, it's a pity because the length of the sleeves is perfect and I think that a 38 would be too long. Consider going one size up especially if you will wear multiple layers under it.
It’s competitive with such a price, but could be better. All in all, it’s a nice deal.
Very good quality, the jungle cloth, wool blend lining, stitching, and the zipper, are all done well and feel durable. Size 40 is a good fit not baggy or too tight, I am 6’ and 165 lbs. The colour of the jacket is the same as the photos presented by Bronson.
tres beau blouon, tres bonne qualité de fabrication. taille 40 pour moi ( je fais 1,70 pour 75kg). je suis tres heureux de mon achat qui ne sera pas le dernier chez BRONSON !!!!
Excellent build and quality! Outstanding and responsive service in help with my delivery.
Fell in love with it.
Just take 1 size bigger look at the sizing reference
This is a fantastic garment. If you appreciate hard-to-find US Military workwear, you need this coat for cold and inclement weather. It is both utilitarian and fashionable. The jungle cloth outer turns water like a champ, and the wool/poly pile blend on the inner is the perfect insulator. A little puffy early on, but it seems to wear in very well.
Real Talk: Like everyone else says, it doesn’t fit like typical military over-wear. Don’t be like me and think you’re special. I wear a suit 38”, bought a 38” and it fits just like that. Great if you don’t want to layer ever, but that’s not how the navy sized these. Size up. I’m not returning mine, but just a solid heads up. Also, to that point, the chest runs tight. Decent room in the belly, but with a 38” chest, the neck would fit a 14.5”-15” a lot better than my 15.5” neck. Pocket seams aren’t meant much work. They’re sewn thin, and need some reinforcement with either stringer thread, or an additional fold over at the seam.
Bottom Line: Buy this jacket. Size accordingly. Note the shortfalls, but they are few. Thanks Bronson!
