1950s Moleskin Cossack Jacket - Black

I love the coat. I bought a size 38 and it fits perfectly on my 42-in chest with just a t-shirt. I can zip it up and it's comfortable with enough room to move around. The other thing that I love is the length; I'm a short guy, about 5 ft 6 so having a short cropped coat works well for my silhouette. One thing that I wasn't keen on was the brass buckles on the side cinch straps. I just found the straps and the cheap brass buckle clashed with the overall quality of the coat. The zipper is a white metal and the cinch straps being some thin brass or gold-plated metal, to me is a fashion faux pas. You don't put two different color metals on the same garment. Anyhow it's possible that the original garment that this was modeled from had different metal buckles then zipper but, it wasn't to my taste so I just carefully unstitched and removed the cinch straps all together.

Love this jacket! This is probably a 4.5/5 for me but I don’t think I can give it half stars, so I rounded up. Re: side straps (mentioned in another review)—it looks like some companies’ jackets have the open strap facing backward, some have it facing forward. I think this was intentionally set facing forward because it makes it easier to adjust with one hand. (You are pulling forward, which is easier for your shoulder than pulling backward, an unnatural movement). My description: I am about 5’9”-10” (69-70 inches or 1.75m), and weigh about 215lbs or 98kg. I wear a 44-46 suit jacket (about 112-116cm). My actual inseam is about 30” (76cm) but usually purchase about 29” (73-74cm). I wear about a 38” (96.5cm) waist—usually with a belt—but can fit a 36” (91.5cm) with some constriction in my waist. Jacket: I purchased this in size 44 in black. The moleskin texture is thick and sturdy, yet soft. Like all Bronson products I’ve purchased, this is really well constructed, and I have full confidence this will last a long time. You can literally feel the heftiness and quality. The color is flat and even throughout. The black is a warmer tone (like a brownish undertone but black nonetheless). Keep that in mind if you want to match it for an all-black outfit. The chest and body width are spot on for me. The arms and body length could be slightly shorter, but I understand that my sizing makes it difficult to get the right fitment. Many places that do XL+ sizing (the alpha size I go with for USA brands) make tops that are for much taller people. The sleeves end right above my thumb, which is fairly normal. If I raise my arms forward, the sleeves fall to my wrist. This is ideal for motorcycle riders who want to stay covered—but I don’t ride. It’s not a big deal to me overall. The overall length isn’t bad. The size chart says it’s 26” (66cm), and that works fine. It hits right above my hips, about halfway between my belly button and where my legs meet at my crotch. 1-1.5 inches shorter would have been nice, but it’s not a problem. It’s much more cropped than most modern “XL” jackets. The zipper pull doesn’t stay “down” when it’s zipped up, but this is a very small/minor issue. I don’t know that there’s a way to solve it since the fabric is so close to the zipper. The edges of the fabric prevent the pull from laying flush. Things I absolutely love: The collar is big! It looks so well balanced and a real statement piece—without going overboard like when the big collars started falling out of style in the 70s-80s (and again in the very early 00s with open collar shirts over suiting). The shell buttons are sleek, and the sleeve cuff slant is a nice touch! The material is wonderful to feel and thicker than you’d think. It’s almost “moldable.” Outside was cold this morning (mid-40s F or about 7-8 C) and I wore this jacket with a button-down shirt and thin undershirt, and I was fine. Overall design is really nice and classic. This isn’t a jacket that will go in and out of style; it’s definitely a jacket you will get a lot of mileage out of.

This jacket is incredibly soft and feels so premium! i would suggest using the sizing guide provided to get the best fit, i went with the XL, i am a lanky 6ft 180 lbs, with long arms and the fit is great. roomy enough to wear with layers underneath. the color is a vintage, faded black, it gives a retro touch to the jacket. i’d highly recommend!

Pros: Love the moleskin. Its very soft, yet firm. Perfect fabric for this style jacket. Love the color! Shipping was fast, from China. Cons: from China. The waist pull tabla on the waist seem to have been stitched on in the wrong direction—loose ends towards the front. The tabs also dont allow for more than 1/4” or so of adjustment on each side. Sizing: Im 5’8, 170 lbs, 44” chest, 30” waist. Dress shirt size 16.5, 32. The size 40 fits perfectly. Sleeve length cuts off right above my thumb knuckle, waist ends right below my belt buckle—nice cropped fit, with room in the chest for light layering but perfect with a t-shirt. Great, flattering silhouette if you dont have a belly!
