Type D-1 Mechanics Shearling Jacket

The U.S. Army D-1 mechanic jacket was issued during the same period as the B-6 flight jacket. It was designed for grounds crews who often work in harsh weather conditions. However, because of its relatively simple and less bulky design, it was soon adopted by pilots who would wear it over their A-2 flight jackets for layering warmth whilst still retaining ease of movement.
