In 1962, as a replacement for the USN N-1 jacket, the USN A-2 jacket was introduced. The A-2 jacket featured a lapel and an additional pocket on the chest. In contrast to the N-1 jacket, the pile-lined wool on the inside was replaced with synthetic fleece. Starting in 1964, the outer fabric of the jacket transitioned from jungle cross cotton to sateen cotton. This type of A-2 jacket was produced until the 1980s and was commonly found in the market.
The early versions of the A-2 jacket (from 1962 to early 1964) still utilized jungle cross cotton, possibly due to remaining materials or for testing purposes, and had not fully transitioned to the widely used sateen cotton fabric at that time.
This jacket, based on the early experimental versions, features an outer layer made of jungle cross cotton. The inner lining continues the use of pile-lined wool, providing excellent insulation for the wearer. It is equipped with a detachable collar tie at the neckline, convenient for storage in the pocket when not needed. Hidden accordion pleats are designed under the arms, and the bottom is equipped with an adjustable strap, ensuring a snug fit at the hem.
