The M-1951(or M51) Parka, is commonly known as the fishtail parka. It was designed by the US Army during the Korean War to cope with severe cold weather. It was a replacement for the M-48 Parka. The early M-51 Parka was made of heavy cotton sateen fabric, which was thicker. The fishtail was intended to be tied around soldiers' legs for additional cold-weather protection. The M-51 parka can add a wool liner to the inside.
