Based on the M-1943 field jacket, the M-1951 Field jacket was a winter jacket produced by the US Army in 1951 (the M-50 was a transitional version). Models prior to the M-1950 were buttoned, with snap fasteners and zippers starting with the M-1951. The M-1951 could wear a standing collar for cold protection, a detail that was carried over into the later M-1965 field jacket. The M-1951 had button cuffs, a pointed collar and had a separate hood that buttoned onto the collar.
We made the initial version of the M-1951 field jacket: Spec. mil-J-11448, made of cotton satin, color OD7, which will look vintage after wearing and washing.
Point collar. Full-zip front. Snapped storm placket. Long sleeves with buttoned cuffs.
Two chest snapped pockets. Two front waist snapped pockets.
TALON brass plated tin zipper.YKK brass snaps.
12 oz. cotton sateen, 100% cotton. Pocket fabric is blended wool (50% wool, 50% polyester).
Machine washable.

The M-1951 is the last of the all cotton field jackets. It feels better than the blended fabrics of later models. The jacket feels substantial, given the heavy weight of the fabric. It is functional and well constructed. I couldn’t ask for anything better.

Thank you for your wonderful feedback. We’re pleased to hear that the jacket met your expectations. We truly appreciate your support and look forward to serving you again.
Got hold of this jacket via a 3rd party seller as it was unfortunately out of stock at Bronson (May 2026). I have several original 51’s but wanted a solid repro as an everyday wear so I didn’t damage my originals. I also regularly wear an M65 so wanted to keep the field jacket style but just ring the changes a little. I’m pushing 6’2” & 220lbs and got the XL after reading the available online reviews. Out of the box, the fabric is a little stiff & has a sheen to it but after a few different washes & tumble/solar dries to strip the starchy finish out it has lost the new look and begins to take on a lovely weathered appearance. It has also shrunk a tiny amount but that’s what I wanted as it adds a lovely aged puckering texture to all the fabric seams. The jacket fits really well and has comfortable room for additional layering underneath if I want to. It is solidly built & a little heavier than my M65’s but that’s what I was hoping for. I might replace the buttons with some original dark brown ones in due course just because I like that contrast, although to be fair the OD buttons supplied are very close to the originals. The only other thing I will add is a bartack reinforcing stitch to the bottom of the zippers that originals had as this is missing and useful to stop the bottom of the zippers from getting detached over time. Overall I’m very happy with the jacket & the attention to detail, it’s a solid quality repro at a decent price.

Thank you so much for your detailed review! We’re glad to hear that you appreciate the jacket’s construction, details, and how it develops character through wear over time.
Your feedback on the zipper reinforcement stitch is greatly appreciated — we’ll share it with our product team for future improvements. Thanks again for your support!
This jacket is great, and especially for the price. It just feels quality throughout, and rugged. It feels like it will outlive me :)
Another quality replica of a modern classic. Fit is spot on and all the details are spot on. I have replaced the buttons with original ones. Very happy.
I ordered a large
I wear a 42 chest 34 waist and i am 90 kilos. Fit is very good and the details are all there. My jacket was shipped without a waist cord though.

Thank you for sharing a photo with us! You look great in our clothing and we're thrilled to see you enjoying it. We appreciate your support and hope to continue to exceed your expectations.
This M51 field jacket is awesome. Equal to Bronson's M65 field jacket. It is lighter in weight compared to the M65, which lends well to being a 3 season jacket without a liner. The wool blend lined pockets are a nice touch. I remember as a kid watching the TV series M.A.S.H. and wanting this jacket. Finally got one. What would make this perfect is if Bronson could reproduce the liner for this field jacket. I would get it in a heartbeat. Great garment and quality construction. Well done!
Build and quality of material is excellent. Stitching is superb. Zip while stiff at first, wears in quickly and is improved as they advise with some dry lube or candle wax. Attention to authenticity is good as well. Supremely comfortable, with its all cotton lining, and surprisingly warm. This is an intermediate jacket and will keep a cool breeze at bay. I don’t have the liner, so cannot comment on that aspect but works well over a polo neck wool sweater for a bit more performance in colder weather.
Ordering was straight forward, I was concerned about size, so gave my dimensions and Bronson came back straightaway with a option for my fit. I’m 6’3 athletic build, 40’ chest, and they suggested a Size M. As you can see it fits perfectly. My only wish is a half inch more on the sleeve as I like my sleeves long but the fit regardless is spot on to their size specs.
Very impressed, I would say made just as good if not better than an original
Another perfect quality jacket, purchase from @Bronsonshop.com. 1951 Field Jacket. The colour and texture are completely authentic vintage looking and will get better with washing and wear. Practical, comfortable and adjustable. Favourite details are the collar and deep wool lined pockets. Thankyou 👍🏼
Still a great buy for me! The jacket is just superb, the cut is excellent, as is the color. The cotton used is, again, really superb. The delivery for France was super fast, 14 days. I thank the Bronson team for their magnificent work and above all their manufacturing quality.
thanks guys !
Unfortunately it's out of stock but I found it from a 3rd party (would have ordered from Bronson otherwise for their great service).
The jacket is seriously cool and high quality. I can't find any fault to it. It's a bit on the heavier side (12oz while I think originals were more 9 or 10 ?), makes it not really suitable for hot weather but perfect as a spring / autumn jacket. With a good layering I can see myself wearing it in winter easily.
It runs large, I would advise sizing down. I wear S mostly, for Bronson / asian brands often size up to M. For this one XS was perfect, even a bit larger than I might have wished.
I was hesitant to get an XL instead of an XXL, but reviews indicated that they run a bit large. I normally wear XXL. This XL fits perfectly in shoulders and chest, and snug on my big belly. 5'11" 267 pounds. 40" waist. About 50" chest. But now that I'm on a diet to lose 20lbs, I'm sure there will be plenty of room.
Love the quality of the fabric and stitching. Frankly, much better jacket than I expected.
After reading the reviews on the M1951 Field Jacket here, I decided to order. I'm glad I did. Customer Service reached out to me to verify the size so that there would be no issues. You don't see that type of service anymore, especially on line. Much appreciated! Received the jacket about a week and half after ordering and I must say Bronson knocked it out of the park. Fit and finish is on the money. Now, hopefully a liner will be available for this style. If not, I'll give the M65 liner a shot. Thank you Bronson!!

So my XL M51 field jacket just arrived today, and I am very happy with it. I normally wear a XXL, but out of the package it fits great. I'm 5'11" 265 lbs. Big shoulders. I thought it might be too tight but it fits perfectly on the shoulders, snug at my big belly, but plenty of room otherwise. Craftsmanship seems real nice. Excited to wear it.
M-51 jacket was first in my collection when my uncle Pierrot, working for NATO Forces in France offered one to me. I was ten, sixty two today and love this brand new one!
Bravo Bronson, I'm your fan.
Very well made. I have a USGI M-51 (DOM 1957) and this matches very well to the original. The material is very green and shiny out of the box but I washed it twice and stuck it in the dryer and a good amount of the shine is gone. While it did shrink a bit in the dryer (I wanted it to) it fit like a small Large or large Medium before the washing/drying so it's a bit smaller than a USGI M-51. Overall I'm very pleased.
Perfect! I am 177cm tall and weigh around 77kg. The ordered size is a bit loose and wide. I think downsizing would fit better.
It would be great if bronsonshop would develop a classic 100% Linen Field Jacket.
I️ think the jacket is great, I️ think the process was not so much. The site says that the jackets are smaller than listed and therefore be careful, so I️ ordered a medium and it came larger than a M, so I️ asked for a small and they wouldnt send until I️ sent mine back….That wasnt the best solution and because of this, I️ missed Christmas for my father and that was disappointing. Good service would have been to send the replacement ASAP and not make the customer go through hoops when the fault was not with us. The product is very nice and I️ appreciate that.
Store owner replied:
We appreciate your feedback and will take it into consideration to improve our processes and communication, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused by the delay in sending the replacement jacket.
Good workmanship, jacket looks good !
I ordered the M51 in Large (packaging bag says 44). NOW, the measurements are not really corresponding with the
size table measures. Please compare (my jkt):
Shoulder to Shoulder 58cm
Pit to Pit 63cm
Back Length (without collar) 81cm
Armlength 67cm.
...it`s def. bigger....(too big for me) !
This Bronson M-1951 Field Jacket is a well-crafted garment that meets expectations in terms of material quality, fit, and resemblance to the historical version. If you are interested in owning a field jacket that maintains a balance between practicality and historical accuracy, this jacket might be a suitable option.

Thank you for your kind words about jacket! We're so glad to hear that you're happy with your purchase and appreciate your support. We hope to continue to provide you with high-quality clothing you love.
Love the quality and look of the jacket but returned it. The chest size was correct but the coat was just too short (I’m 5’ 11” so not a giant) I would purchase again if it were longer.
I was issued a jacket just the same as this one when I went into the U.S. Army in the early 1960s. That jacket stopped fitting me about 40 years ago and my son ended up with it when he was a teen. I never really liked the later issued style jacket. This one I have now is an exact copy of my original issued jacket, but of course, a size or two larger ( I'm still fighting the Battle of The Bulge at my mid section). This new jacket fits great and brings back a lot good memories of younger days.
Thanks
John in Arlington, Texas USA
I lived in one of these from 14-19 yr old, and wore it out. The hippie days faded away, but these are great functional jackets, now nostalgia.
The Bronson quality and authenticity is great.
I have tried 2 different liners though, and both have the bottom button hole on each side in the wrong place.
I collect military this jacket is the closest reproduction I've seen, would be perfect other then it's an inch and a half short on the length but you won't notice
Jacket was purchased to give to a 90 year old Korean War era veteran for Christmas. What was NOT ever mentioned was that this item (and I'm assuming all your other items!) was manufactured in CHINA! I'm not sure I would have made this purchase if I had known that. Imagine my horror when I'm informed via email that the item has shipped - from China - and it's already early December! I checked and checked and checked the tracking number day after day after day! It got here, barely in time. I think you need to be just a bit more transparent with who we're doing business with here.
